Worcester backs Northern Ireland boiler scrappage scheme
We have welcomed the planned introduction of a £12million boiler replacement scheme in Northern Ireland.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland announced that the scheme will be active from September this year.
Neil Schofield, our Head of External and Governmental Affairs, commented:
“We saw just how successful a boiler scheme of this kind can be as some 125,000 homeowners across England were able to benefit back in 2010.
“It is a huge boost for the homeowner and boiler installer alike to see a similar scheme given backing in Northern Ireland.
“The decision to back a boiler scrappage scheme in Northern Ireland will give up to 16,000 households the chance to reduce their fuel bills and carbon emissions.
“The grant of up to £1,000, dependent on total gross income, is available to assist in replacing an inefficient boiler of at least 15 years old with a more energy efficient condensing gas- or oil-fired boiler.
Beneficial to local boiler installers
“What makes the scheme even more attractive is the fact that it stands to benefit a number of local businesses, with the demand for replacement boiler installations being invigorated by the scheme.
“With as many as one in five UK households experiencing fuel poverty thanks to rising energy costs, high-efficiency boilers are the key to keeping both energy bills and carbon emissions to a minimum.
“The Northern Ireland Executive should be given a great deal of credit for making such a commitment to the widespread improvement of energy efficiency.”
