How boiler controls could help with fuel bills
Choosing the right boiler controls to maximise heating efficiency
Even the benefits of an ‘A’ rated condensing boiler can be diminished if it’s installed with controls that don’t meet the needs of the end user or the property.
From easy-to-operate mechanical timers to more sophisticated digital and intelligent programmers, we have a range of boilers controls to meet the needs of your installations and customers.
Boiler controls can make a difference
Although ‘A’ rated condensing boilers can help make a noticeable difference to fuel usage, specifying good quality heating controls can help maximise the efficiency of the total system and offer annual savings of up to £235 (source: EST*).
The EST also advises that by turning the room thermostat down by just 1 degree, £55* could be saved annually.
Boiler control requirements
All new or replacement boilers require a minimum level of controls installed alongside them, either:
A timer or programmer with a room thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) or
A programmable room thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves
If the heating system includes a hot water cylinder, that will require a thermostat too.
Which controls are best?
The best controls to fit depends on the particular installation and customer.
All Worcester Greenstar gas condensing boilers are designed without a fixed timer, which gives you the flexibility to choose the right controls for the homeowner’s requirements and budget.
It’s important that the homeowner is comfortable with whichever level of technology you recommend because they will be more likely to use it to it’s full potential, getting the maximum efficiency from their system.
Before you leave the installation
Once the most suitable controls have been fitted, our best advice to installers is to fully demonstrate the system to the occupant and provide them with the relevant user manual.
