The oil tank is filled but there is some air in the pump how do I bleed it?
If the oil tank is inadvertently emptied of its contents, when it is refilled the oil line will be full of air. This needs purging from the tank to the burner. This task should be undertaken by a service engineer.
Prevention
To avoid this happening, the tank should be refilled before it becomes empty - similar to filling a car with petrol.
The oil level can be monitored by either:
Using a dipstick via the gauge fitted to the tank. (New electronic gauges are operated by radio frequency to a receiver in the house.)
Notifying an oil company that operates a top up scheme, whereby they will visit at regular intervals and do the tests themselves.
