Project Description
Cymdeithas Tai Eryri in partnership with Gwynedd Council has developed a series of ‘green’ low carbon terraced houses in Eithinog, Bangor, North Wales. With each property boasting a Worcester Greenstore 7kW ground source heat pump linked to a Worcester Greenskies solar thermal system, the houses became the first properties in Wales to meet Code level 4 in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
The installation was carried out by local installer Gwyn Roberts, of EcoHeat Wales Ltd. With the large proportion of the housing association’s properties serviced by traditional Worcester boilers, Cymdeithas Tai Eryri decided to opt for Worcester’s Greenskies solar package and Greenstore ground source heat pump as they felt that the two products were a perfect complement to each other and would therefore work well together.
These four homes were intended to be a pilot project for Cymdeithas Tai Eryri and as the housing association has already noted some fantastic energy savings since the tenants moved in at the beginning of the year, that they are planning to start rolling out even more.
“We have energy metres in the house monitoring the heating consumption, plus we also have energy metres installed directly onto the heat pumps to work out how much electricity they are using. Even though we only have one quarter’s heating and electricity bill to test against, this was for the coldest period of the year and all indications show that there is going to be some substantial annual savings for the occupiers.” Huw Evans, Cymdeithas Tai Eryri
