Project Description

Sustainability is a top priority for Camden Council and like other boroughs it is obliged to make substantial reductions in carbon emissions.

With the aim of turning existing homes into energy efficient ones, Camden Council turned one of its existing properties, within the Camden Square Conservation Area, into an EcoHouse to see how other similar properties in Camden could benefit from an eco refurbishment.

Insulation, high-performance windows and draught proofing, will significantly reduce emissions, however additional changes made to the 1850’s house, which include the installation of a Worcester Greenstar 12kW System and a Worcester Greenskies solar thermal package, will help cut carbon emissions by up to 80%.

The Council plans to learn from and use the technologies piloted in the house for similar refurbishment projects in the future.

“Camden Council is delighted and proud that the EcoHome has been nominated for this award. The EcoHome is a pioneering project and is amongst only a handful of houses in the country that has been refurbished to achieve such high reductions in emissions – possibly the highest.

Sustainability is a high priority for Camden Council, and we want Camden’s housing to lead the way on fighting climate change by cutting emissions and reducing fuel poverty.” Cllr Chris Naylor, Executive Member for Homes and Housing Strategy at Camden Council
