How can the Boiler Upgrade Scheme work for the UK?

We are looking forward to the government’s response to the recent consultation on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme answer all the burning questions we’ve had about the BUS, from how it’s going to run to who’s going to run it.

In the past year, 56% of Government-supported heat pump installations were funded by BUS. While this is amazing, one of the biggest obstacles in the way of heat pump installations is the hefty cost. Even with the £7,500 grant, homeowners are still having to shell out thousands to cover the rest. What needs to happen to truly increase the uptake of the scheme in the UK?

Martyn Bridges, Director of Governmental and External Affairs, says:

“Ultimately, what needs to be addressed is the exceptionally high cost of electricity. Then, heat pumps could be marketed to consumers as a cost-saving option, one that’s lower than a gas or oil-fired boiler. Without that ability, heat pumps will continue to be a tough sell to many consumers.
