Importance of choosing the right flue
While it’s important to know how to be safe around gas usage during Gas Safety week, we are once again coming across counterfeit flue systems and other accessories on the market so it’s important to be aware of what's real and what's not.
What are counterfeit flue systems?
Counterfeit flue systems do exactly what it says on the box — they claim to be compatible with certain brands but are normally an unapproved imitation of the real thing. They are usually sold online at discounted prices or second-hand.
While the alternative may look the same for a cheaper price, there’s no guarantee towards how durable they are. We test our flue systems under extreme conditions, high and low temperatures, under rain and snow situations, and UV testing for degradation from sunlight. Counterfeit flue systems, on the other hand, may fail, corrode, or the seal could fail under certain conditions.
How to check your flue:
- Make sure accessories are from the original equipment manufacturer.
- Make sure C1, C3, C5 classifications (horizontal, vertical, and flue plume orientations) of accessories are approved in the UK or it could invalidate boiler warranty.
Understanding the importance of choosing the right flue is important to keep you and your customers safe.
