What is a HIU?

Having a HIU is like having a combi boiler. It’ll provide instant heating and hot water, but instead of generating the heat itself, it takes heat from a shared central plant elsewhere.

The difference between Direct & Indirect HIUs

Direct HIUs are more streamlined with no pump or expansion vessel. The one plate heat exchanger provides instant domestic hot water (DHW) at a regulated temperature. This makes them potentially more efficient when conditions allow.

Why use Direct HIUs?

Indirect HIUs are the most popular option in the UK, offering greater safety and reliability. With two plate heat exchangers, an Indirect HIU can provide instant DHW at a regulated temperature and space heating (CH) within a property. Unlike a Direct HIU, an Indirect HIU has both a pump and an expansion vessel.
