Neil and Tom Boother in front of PowerUp pull up at roadshow

Meet brothers Neil and Tom Boother

Name: Neil (left) and Tom (right) Boother
Company: Neil Boother Heating Plumbing Electrical, Tom Boother Heating and Plumbing
Location: Worcester

Family is the heart of most installation businesses and that certainly is the case here. Worcester-based brothers, Tom and Neil, spoke to us about how they work collaboratively as installers with separate businesses. From passing the torch down from one brother to the next, to their biggest installer life hack, read on to find out the siblings’ experiences working in the heating industry.

Here's what they said!

How do you work as brothers?

Neil: Tom does the install; I do the service. If I get a job where I need a new boiler, Tom will go and do it. I do all the breakdowns and repairs.

Good that you split the workload, what’s it like working as a family?

Neil: We get along better now that we don’t work together. Our dad used to install Worcester Bosch boilers. I worked for my dad. He trained me up, and then Tom worked for me.

From their favourite boilers...

What's your favourite Worcester Bosch product?

Tom: Greenstar 4000.

Neil: Greenstar CDi Classic - old school. If it's the newer ones, it would be the Greenstar 8000+ or the Greenstar CDi Compact.

What is your favourite thing about working in this industry?

Tom: A different setting every day. Sitting or working in the same office or going into the same place of work every day doesn't appeal to me.

... to their life hack!

What is a life hack you swear by?

Neil: Carrying a lot of stuff for repairs. The boilers I maintain and service, I carry 90% of the spares that go wrong.

Tom: From an installing point of view as well, having stock on the van for a wide variety of fittings, making sure you've got all different types of pipes for different situations, it makes it easy. I know some people that will go to a merchant's three times in a day because they haven't got this or that because they want to keep bare minimum on the van.
