We celebrated International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) on June 23rd, commemorating achievements of women in engineering across the business. We spoke directly to our female engineers to understand more about their experience in the field. Read on to find out more about what diversity in engineering looks like and how we at Worcester Bosch are helping women in the industry! As featured in H&V News.

Tahsina, Sustainability Coordinator

Entering her eighth year at Worcester Bosch, Tahsina Khan is the Sustainability Coordinator who initially started as an Application Development Engineer in R&D. Her curiosity for design and engineering began when holding the tools for her father as he fixed his car. Tahsina’s story highlights the impact male figures can have in introducing young girls into traditionally male fields.

Tahsina believes different perspectives are vital to engineering: “The seat belt design is a classic one. It’s designed around a male torso, and so it’s not necessarily fit for purpose for women. Would this have happened if there had been more women in the design team?

Each year, the Women at Bosch group hold an INWED celebration to inspire women while honouring the achievements of female engineers. This allows engineers across the Bosch group to network, speak to others, and share their career journeys with one another.

Anna, Design Engineer

A recent addition to the Electrified Solutions team, Anna Herritty is a Design Engineer working within Research and Development (R&D). With a background in product engineering for Heat Interface Units, Anna’s journey with Worcester Bosch began in school when she was paired with the company through the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship.

In the time Anna has worked here, she has noticed the steady increase of female representation in engineering. Reflecting on her own team, Anna said: “Within R&D we have seven female colleagues, with the majority in engineering roles. Equally, this year our intern cohort was predominantly female.”
