Should I leave the heating on all day?
There is no straightforward answer to this question, with professionals having mixed opinions about the most energy efficient approach to keeping your home warm. We recommend choosing the option that works best for you and your lifestyle, whether that be keeping your heating on a low setting throughout the day to maintain a consistent temperature, or only turning it on and up when needed.
The Energy Saving Trust recommend to set your heating to only come on when you need it, as the most energy efficient way to heat your home. Their reasoning for this is because when your heating is on, you're losing energy, so the longer your heating is on, the more energy you're losing.
Should I constantly leave my hot water on?
Generally speaking, it’s more often than not cheaper and more efficient to set your system timer so the hot water comes on when you are at home and wanting to use the shower for example. However, if you have an electrical immersion heater and a tariff where energy is cheaper at night (Economy 7 or 10) it could be cheaper to heat your water during the night, we would advise checking your tariff in that instance to avoid any unwanted surprises with your bills
