Rely on Worcester

Millions of people across the UK rely on Worcester all year round. This year we enlisted Kieran Bracken and Wayne Bridge to launch a campaign to offer local grass roots junior sports teams a chance to enter a competition for us to visit their club, donate £1000 towards their club and also hand out free teas, coffees and bacon sandwiches to the parents and grandparents on the side-lines. With over 1500 entries, the final 8 have been chosen so keep your eyes on this page as we will reveal the winners throughout the coming months.

1K Prize for talented young Weymouth athletes

Young Weymouth athletes holding their cheque

An athletics club in Weymouth has been crowned as one of the UK's most deserving young sports teams in a nationwide competition.

Weymouth St Paul's Harriers athletics club based at Budmouth College, was chosen from thousands of entries across the country by reliable heating manufacturer Worcester, Bosch Group.

As well as bagging themselves a £1000 donation, the club also received a surprise visit from the Worcester team, who helped to keep the parents and supporters warm and dry on the side-lines with hot breakfast sandwiches and drinks, warm blankets and pop-up tents.

The team was chosen due to its dedication to providing sports facilities and giving young people the chance to train for local, country and even world-wide championships.

Tracy Moore, coaching coordinator commented, "Having recently been forced out of our original training ground after years of vandalism, we have begun the task of building our facilities again from scratch. At the top of our wish list is a competition standard long jump and the generous donation from Worcester has made this possible.

"The positive attitude of our coaches, athletes and supporters has been crucial to the club surviving this difficult period so we are thrilled that their efforts have been recognised."

Sue Pennington, consumer brand manager at Worcester, Bosch Group, commented: "From the huge volume of entries we received, we felt that Weymouth St Paul's Harriers athletics club was really deserving of our support. Their hard work in providing the chance for young people to participate in such a wide variety of sports is invaluable for the community.

"It was great to be able to support such a well-deserving team and give a big thank you to the parents who cheer on their loved ones come rain or shine. The team had lots of fun showing them that they can rely on Worcester to keep them warm, and enjoy watching their young athletes training whatever the weather."
