Hear from Jan and Richard
Compact and efficient, the CS2000 air to water full monobloc heat pump gives you lower carbon heating and hot water at home, by harnessing the natural warmth of the great outdoors. When you’re keeping one eye on budget, space, and emissions, the CS2000 could be your perfect match. Read on to see the reasons why Jan and Richard from Malvern decided to install one into their Georgian home.
Jan and Richard have owned their three-story country house for 35 years. Half stone, half brick, and full of the quirks and character of its Georgian roots – it’s a romantic home, albeit not a modern one. So, when the source of their heating, a traditional Rayburn cooker and boiler, was nearing the end of its life, the couple started searching for a solution more in keeping with today’s world:

“We’ve done the best we can to modernise, and we’ve become more aware of the need to be eco-conscious with our choices. We have double glazing, loft insulation, solar panels, electric car. Next up was our heating. Over the years it’s become harder and harder to find people who could service our old gas boiler. Spare parts were tricky to come by, and we slowly began to accept it needed to be replaced, ideally before winter. Even if we wanted to stick with gas, which we didn’t, a modern boiler would mean major restructuring because of the size difference. So, we started looking for something that would solve all these issues at once, and a heat pump looked like the right choice.”
With positive outcomes from their previous home eco-improvements, and on the hunt for something that would futureproof their home and reduce their carbon footprint, the Bosch Compress 2000 AWF came out on top. Requiring no planning permission, no indoor unit, and with an A+++ ErP rating*, it was the perfect choice for their period home:
“Even with new pipework and some home modifications, our heat pump was fitted within a week. Our installer has also helped us take advantage of the government grant, which has made it a much cheaper exercise. What we’re most excited about is the peace and quiet this winter. Our old boiler would fire up every few minutes, we’d hear the click-clack ignition on a regular basis, so it’ll be nice to have an almost silent source of heating. Not to mention the feel-good factor of running a home without gas. We see our eco-improvements as investments. We’re investing in the world, but we’re also investing in our home. When we come to sell, we expect a better return in selling it as an eco-friendly period property.”
As an all-in-one system, the Compress 2000 AWF is one of our quickest and easiest heat pumps to fit. In a modern home, it can be set up and working within a couple of days. Whilst Jan and Richard’s period home required a little more work, it’s still a straightforward process for people switching from gas.
Olly, one of our Approved Installers from Heating Maintenance Services Ltd, described the experience: “Older homes like this can still be great candidates for heat pumps. Jan and Rich had done the windows and the loft, which helped with insulation. When we fitted the 2000, we took the boiler tanks out, fitted new pipes, and got them up and running within a week. This particular heat pump only requires an outdoor unit, so that meant even less intrusion in the home. There’s a growing demand from customers who want to switch from gas to heat pumps. We expect to be fitting more and more of them in the future.”
We’ll be visiting Jan and Richard again in the new year, to hear what their life, bills, and energy consumption is like with a new heat pump in their period home during winter.
